Day 15, Monday 20th july

Today is our last day in Cairns. Tomorrow we take the train to Townsville, for two nights before we fly back to Sydney for one night. I am getting very near the end of my journey!

Well, yesterday we rented out a car, today we still have it. So, we headed up to Port Douglas.
On the way we stopped at Palm Cove which is a beautiful beach. After a quick stop we then took to the road and went up to Port Douglas. We only stopped there for lunch really, so we carried on the road and made it to Daintree. Where we took a electric boat cruise, (The quietest boat on the river) to see Crocodiles. We saw two of them and even better, by chance we had the whole boat (which squeezes on 12 max) to ourselves! That was good, my first sighting of wild crocodiles and the guide was good, which is a bonus!

Day 14, Sunday 20th July 2009

Day, 14. Little over a week left in my holidays. Well, the wise old saying says, Time flies when you having fun, but that's not always a good thing if you don't want to go home :P

Anyways, today the plan was that we are renting a car and then going into the nearby... (Unless you take the scenic route... Trust me!) town, named Innisfail where we met a friend of a friend, on behalf of this friend... Long story, they know it, i don't. :P

We drove for ages, on the scenic route of course. We stopped at The Babinda Boulders near Cairns, which had good views. Huge boulders, the sign read "This creek has claimed many lifves"...Jeepers! We didn't climb on the boulders, but the sign doesn't stop others :P

Afterwards we met with this friend of a friend, who is a local and they showed us round a bit.

Took us to the each of a sugar cane field, the Sugar industry is the second biggest in Australia, behind tourism. At this sugar cane field we got to chew on some sugar cane, which, to no surprise was sweet, similar to its product, sugar. Taste sensation! She took us to the banana Fields, which are many and we saw the unripe bananas, which they keep under multi colour bags and to a beach, which is better than Scottish beaches... by far.

Well, we took a long way on the way there, but we took what seemed like a massive journey on the way back, on a twisting road for 19 km, which took time. Still, it was worth the journey, albeit a long one!

Day 13, Saturday 18th July 2009

I'm writing this morning because i don't think i will be back on today.
But that is because we are going out all afternoon, then chilling in the hotel this evening.

Well, today we are taking the Skyrail! Which should be good. It's basically a sky rail which takes you over the rainforest canopy, i can't wait. Gives me a opportunity to see the rain forest, instead of actually having to climb through a forest, we can be only metres above it. Should be a fantastic experience!

Afterwards i think we will be relaxing at the hotel, me and dad will hit the gym.... Only joking! Dad won't be at the gym *Chuckle, he will be in the sauna. I'm still trying to persuade him to go, because under sixteen year olds must go with an adult unfortunately. Otherwise if all else fails we will be at the pool and up to not much.

P.s I'm enjoying sunny weather too! Exactly what i was looking forward to in this holiday. :D

Day 12, Friday 17th July 2009

Today we headed to Cairns! We took the plane from Brisbane into Cairns International Airport which has a lot of work getting done on it. It took just over 2 hours and already at this point we could tell it was warmer. From the airport we caught a taxi to our hotel, The Sebel which is nice. It has a pool and an expensive business center, which I am in writing this!

Tonight there may be a fireworks display, by chance on the same night we show up, which should make a fantastic way to start our time in Cairns.

Day 11, Thursday 16th July

To start today we caught a bus up to the view point of Mt. Coot-tha, which presents magnificent views of Brisbane. (Looking forward to uploading pictures when i get home :) It presents panoramic views of the City and of the glass mountains.

After that we took the Aboriginal Art trail, which was a short walk but along the way there was Aboriginal Art work scattered alongside the path. We followed the path to the JC slaughter falls, but we were disappointed to find a mere trickle of water in a otherwise dried up river.

I sat in the Brisbane Planetarium for 45 minutes watching a video about the universe in general, you know... the galaxies and all that :) Ye, that was really good too.

Day 10, Wednesday 15th July 2009

Well, a good day today. We set out in the morning to see the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Which was good, we saw Kangaroos, Crocodiles, Wombats, Tasmanian Devils, Dingos and of course Koalas, over 130 of them.

After finishing there, we took the Bus back and haven't done much else. Went to a Cafe, walked around the City Center. Something interesting about Australia compared to Britain that you notice as you walk around is there is water fountains all over the place. Fairly obvious why, because summer day 40 degree heat would be pretty hard work, but it would look completely out of place in every Scottish park. :P

Also, we did watch The Hangover last night and it is funny! Kinda random at points but certainly a good laugh.

Day 9, Tuesday 14th July 2009

The day is still not over yet, but i won't be back on tonight so i'm posting now.

Not up to much today, we learnt from our mistakes and took a bus into the City center today. Wandered around the City for a while, but jumped on the CityCat, the Boat which took us all along the river, we stayed on until the end of the journey admiring the City then got off at the New farm district. Went then into the New Farm park, and wandered around aimlessly before deciding to catch a bus back into the City.

Since then we have walked around not doing much. We scouted out the imax theatre which I'm going to in 30 minutes to watch the film The Hangover, my brother tells me it's funny and also i have discovered the state library, which i am standing in right now! It's awesome (Free Internet access!).
